Batumi (Georgian: ბათუმი, formerly Batum or Batoum, Turkish: Batum) is a seaside city on the Black Sea coast and capital of Adjara, an autonomous republic in southwest Georgia.

The Batumi Botanical Garden is a 111 hectare area of land 9 km north of the city of Batumi. Located at the place called Mtsvane Kontskhi ("The Green Cape") on the Black Sea shore, it is one of the largest botanical gardens in the former Soviet Union. Currently, the garden consists of nine floristic sectors, those of Caucasian humid subtropics, East Asia, New Zealand, South America, the Himalayas, Mexico, Australia, and of the Mediterranean. The garden collection comprises 2037 taxonomic units of ligneous plants, including 104 of Caucasian origin.
Old Batumi is especially beautiful. The majority of buildings is dated 19th century.
In a city there is a fortress "Tamara" and Catholic church. Among constructions of the Soviet epoch: hotel "Intourist" (1939, the architect And. V.Schusev), drama theatre (1952), a cinema "Tbilisi" (1964).
Monuments to A.S.Pushkin, Vazha Pshavela, Shota Rustaveli. Numerous fountains. A unique musical fountain with three-dimensional holographic installation. An obelisk of Glory to the soldiers who were lost in days of the World War II, with Eternal fire. A city ornament is the Seaside park — the parkway stretched on 8 km along a beach, streets Ninoshvili and Rustaveli.
Oceanarium of scientific research institute of a sea fish economy and the oceanography, including aquarium (the largest in the former USSR) and a delphinarium.
